For my first post ever, I wanted to warmly welcome you to Peggy’s Postings by inviting you into my own life and sharing what I have been up to! As an avid music lover and concertgoer, I found myself at the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in D.C. this past Thursday with my very close friend, Dayna. We bought these tickets last October, so we had been eagerly anticipating this night for the last year. The minute the Red Hot Chili Peppers had dropped the tickets last year we bought them; we knew we had to be there!

On the Thursday afternoon of the show, we road-tripped from Richmond to D.C, catching up on life and blasting the Red Hot Chili Peppers and their openers, The Strokes and Thundercat. When we arrived at the bustling stadium, we got a couple of stadium classics, hotdogs and nachos, and some drinks. We then hopped on the escalator and rode up to our nosebleed seats at the top of the stadium. I looked out upon the packed stadium and at the towering high rises and the glistening Potomac River in the distance. With time to spare we decided to splurge and buy some merch. We made our way back down and waited in the long line of fans wanting to buy some memorabilia. Dayna and I picked out matching t-shirts; a simplistic beige shirt with the classic red and black Red Hot Chili Peppers logo placed in the center of the shirt. Bubbly after our purchase and excited for the upcoming bands, we rode the escalator back up to our seats.

When arriving back at our seats, Thundercat was finishing his set as the sky was turning to dusk. The sky’s purple and blue coloring captured my eyes as the visible, shining moon rested right above the stadium’s horizon. Meanwhile, the packed stadium was buzzing with energy. Suddenly, flashing strobe lights caught my eye as The Strokes, one of my favorite bands, emerged on the stage. Immediately as they began to play my body filled with serotonin and Dayna and I jumped up to dance. I couldn’t stop fangirling, I was seeing one of my favorite bands in concert! The people in our section didn’t seem to be big fans of The Strokes and stayed seated and unamused throughout the set. But we didn’t care or let their energy damper our experience. We sang, screamed, laughed, smiled, and danced the entire time. They played fan favorites such as “Bad Decisions,” “You Only Live Once,” and “The Adults Are Talking.” The stage lit up with blue, purple, and red strobe lights as the music blasted throughout the stadium. When their set ended, I wished they could play more, but I simultaneously felt eager for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Feeling spontaneous and high on life, Dayna and I decided to see if we could sneak down closer to the stage. Giggling, we made our way from section 400 to the bottom of the stadium. We found a massive line of people entering section 100 and decided to pull a “Trojan Horse.” We nestled our way into the crowd and slipped by the people checking the tickets. We slyly smiled at each other and then went on to see if we could complete the next challenge: getting into the pit. Dayna and I confidently walked to the entrance of the pit but when we went to enter they told us we needed to have wristbands to enter. Expecting the denial anyways, we shrugged our shoulders and said to each other, “it never hurts to try, but, hey, we made it so much closer!” Dayna and I successfully found two empty, unclaimed seats in section 100. With our new, up close view of the stage, we waited in anticipation for the Red Hot Chili Peppers to go on.

The stadium lights then dimmed, the crowd cheered, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers strutted on stage. Dayna and I looked at each other and squealed in excitement. The Red Hot Chili Peppers instantly caught the audience’s attention with their lively energy and eye-catching visuals displayed on the screens. The stadium came alive; everyone sang and danced with passion as The Red Hot Chili Peppers opened with their iconic song, “Can’t Stop.” This electrifying energy went on for the entire set.

During “Give It Away,” the upbeat music was paired with bright and colorful graphics projected on the screen. The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ did not just rely on their lively, unique sound to create a capturing concert experience, but they provided a visually stimulating and appealing aspect as well. Before I knew it, the set had come to an end. Dayna and I both wet with sweat from head banging jumped up and down and exclaimed, “that was so amazing!” Filled with energy and glee we then made our way back to the car and headed back to Richmond.
